no go buffalo

Posted on Friday, June 30, 2006 in Family/Friends, Travel

Not going to Buffalo after all. It turns out the tickets we had that were ‘buddy passes’ from Jay from USAirWays are actually not all that great. Even though you pay for the passes, they are “seat requests” (aka standby) not actual tickets. And worse still, buddy passes put you on the standby list under any paid travelers, employee travelers, and employees traveling with companions, and companions traveling alone.

So needless to say, there were 4 paid travelers that couldn’t get on the plane due to overbooking as well as 17 standby people that couldn’t get on the plane. The ticket agent woman explained that people have been at the airport waiting for 3 days to get a flight out to the east coast and we too probably would be. I didn’t want to deal with being stuck in some city in the midwest or someplace else waiting to get to the east coast for days and the trip was only for 4 days or so, so we asked for a refund. If we mail our “seat request” tickets back to Jay we’ll get a refund they tell me. At least we get that, I suppose. So I wonder how buddy passes are any benefit at all.. flying standby is not a benefit imo. But, I’m a person that lives by plans and reservations and confirmations, it makes everything less stressful.

I feel bad that I put Amritz through all this and made plans with my friends in Buffalo and put my parents through it. Sorry :( Hopefully, I can visit Buffalo sometime soon.

Posted on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 in Family/Friends, Travel

Going to Buffalo this weekend.. haven’t been back in 2 years!! Amritz is going with me, Josh is a chicken and won’t fly. So we get to have the bestest bad-for-you food ever all weekend long. On my list:

  • Mighty Taco Chicken Fajita
  • Anchor Bar Wings
  • Anderson’s Custard
  • Roz’s Pizza
  • Spot Coffee (Is Higher Grounds on Sheridan still open? I love their pb hot cocoa, though it may be too warm for that)

and to do:

  • Niagara Falls
  • Transmission Dance Party
  • Accepting other invitations…

Can’t wait to see family and friends again :)

Accupuncture for Animals

Posted on Saturday, June 24, 2006 in Family/Friends

Mandy had her accupuncture today. It was pretty cool to watch. The needles are so super fine that the doctor twicked one of them with her finger and it bent just like a piece of hair or a bristle from a paint brush. I never realized they were that flimsy.

The vet put the needles in her leg in a few spots and down her spine and one right above her eyes in her forehead (probably 9 total). They’re left in for about 10 minutes and then pulled out. She did seem to relax after 3 or 4 were in, I’m not sure if it was the accupuncture or her getting used to the doctor though. Standing up she still limps a lot, she needs 2 more visits for them to determine if it is helping her or not. The next step is surgery.

Just like medication, massage, and other remedies, some work on some people/animals, some don’t.

Car for sale

Posted on Sunday, June 18, 2006 in Cars

I cleaned up my car quite a bit today. Josh bought a pressure washer, his new toy and it doesn’t do that great a job on washing cars.. but rinsing it’s great at. Especially with my rims coated in brake dust. So it’s ready to be listed for sale again.. has 6000 more miles on the warranty as reassurance for anyone purchasing it.. anyone want a 2000 bmw z3? also has a new differential and transmission with a 2 year warranty on both parts.

The Jealous Toaster Moved to new software

Posted on Saturday, June 17, 2006 in Technology, Web

There’s no way to really move all of my old posts over to this system.. because the old system was so old (greymatter), but I do have them all saved in a very very long msword file. This is now a nice pretty database (nucleus CMS) that will hopefully be supported for a long time.
