Posted on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 in Technology, Web

Wow only 8 versions since 2001.. I feel like I’m slacking, though I may have lost count.

What do you think of the new design?

new mini advertising

Posted on Monday, January 29, 2007 in Cars

Josh pointed out this new advertising campaign for mini:

Billboards that talk to you when you drive by, if you’re a mini owner and vouched in for this campaign. Cute. It’s like a personalized amber alert sign just for mini owners :P

My mini is still at the dealer. Their diagnostics computer is out of service. It will be fixed tomorrow sometime so I don’t expect my car until Wednesday where I’m going to demand they drop it off to me. I’m so stressed out with this mini lately.

Of Montreal show

Posted on Saturday, January 27, 2007 in Family/Friends, Music

Went to see Of Montreal last night with Amritz. The night started out horribly (sp?) as my mini AGAIN broke down.. same deal went into fail safe mode or whatever where it goes to 9mph. I was on the 405 south on my way to Amritz’s apt and the EML light went on and then voila 9mph and i put my 4 ways on but I guess that doesn’t mean much cuz everyone still honked at me all crazy and angry. The tow truck came in record time- 30 minutes and I vented to the poor driver for a bit. Luckily I had 9mph of amazing supercharged boost action to get me off the exit and into a Best Buy parking lot. Amritz picked me up at Best Buy and on to the show. He was also kind enough to drive me 30 miles out of the way back home :)

Some DJs opened that were ok. I just liked reminiscing with the old school jams they were mashing up. The crowd didn’t move much during that act. After that was a band called “Ariel Pink”. They were a waste of time (silence would have been better) and after a half hour I felt my ears may have been bleeding.

Then Of Montreal came on. Neat entrance from under the stage and a big stuffed dinosaur/dragon was on stage, but moved over to make way for Kevin Barnes, lead singer. He’s quite the ‘fashionable’ lad. Changed outfits 3 times. I recognized maybe 5 songs total all night. I didn’t realize they had a new album released 5 days ago, some fan I am huh?

COACHELLA 2007!!

Posted on Monday, January 22, 2007 in Current Events, Music

So they announced the line up for Coachella today. I bought tickets last week for all 3 days during their advance sale (got a discount!).

I’m so excited Bjork is gonna be there. I saw her once in Toronto with Steve and Hatsumi and she was amazing and put on a very interesting and unique performance. There’s no one like her. I can’t wait to see her again.

Here’s my favorites (in order of day): Bjork, Interpol, DJ Shadow, Peaches, Benny Benassi, The Arcade Fire, The Decemberists, Travis, The Rapture, LCD Soundsystem, Rage Against the Machine, Air, Placebo, Against Me!, Ratatat, and CSS are all must sees. Also excited to see a few more that I have on my ipod but only a few of their songs, not full albums. $250/16 Must see acts = $15.63/act. Sounds like a sweet deal to me!

It’s official, I need to buy gloves

Posted on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 in Current Events

It’s been so cold here in LA lately, and Valencia in particular that I’ve been wearing 2 coats and a scarf everyday. And today as I started walking into work, it started snowing. I thought I left Buffalo to get away from the snow/cold?! It looks pretty but if you’re accustomed to snow you know that when it’s 38 degrees and snowing it’s that wet snow that melts and never accumulates. So as soon as it touches the ground it turns to water/slush.

Apparantly this long cold spell is not just annoying Angelinos, it’s also affecting all the crops up here and in Ventura county. Lots of oranges, strawberries, and avocados have died from the frost and cold temperatures.. so in the next 2 weeks we’re supposed to expect a huge price jump in those. I wonder if it will affect the East Coast too, i know they get a lot of their stuff from Florida.

I wish I got a photo of the snow this morning but after I sent my text message to all my friends about the snow, my phone battery died and with it goes the possible opportunity for a kodak moment.

Here’s a pic from KCAL of the 5 fwy north about 3 exits up the road from me near Castaic Lake:

Pirates!

Posted on Saturday, January 13, 2007 in Uncategorized

Saw a commercial for this new Medieval Times Dinner type thing, but it’s with Pirates! It’s just up the street from Medieval Times in Buena Park. Hope it’s better than the lame Treasure Island Casino show I saw in Vegas. You get pirate hats here it must be!

Macworld 2007

Posted on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 in Technology

Apple keynote today announced the new iphone.. looks cool. I’d love to have one, but I’d rather not have Cingular. Their cheapest plan with free nights and weekends (about all I need) is $59.99… of course Verizon’s similar plan is the same but they also offer a smaller plan with free nights and weekends for $39.99. But I’m paying something like $20 in a family plan similar to the $39.99 one and very happy with it.. So I’m not so upset about the $499 or $599 price tag on this ipod/pda/phone.. more so with the monthly cell phone charges. Does everyone get a free phone from work these days?

I’m happy with my new KRZR right now. Most impressive is the voice recognition, because I hate using menus. It doesn’t require any training and gets the trickiest of names when I’m mumbling :)

Mini Rally!

Posted on Thursday, January 4, 2007 in Cars, Travel

Here’s a pic from the MINI skirts rally I went to on New Years Day. Josh got sick from my driving + what we call his ulcer and we had to end it at PCH but it was a fun drive starting in Universal City- Mulholland Drive :)

(The MINI skirts is an all girls MINI rally group. If you have a MINI and you’re a girl in so-cal, you should join!)

I drive it in manual mode most of the time now. I really like driving it that way too.. perhaps I could drive a stick one day!

seeing red

Posted on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 in Family/Friends

So I’ve always wanted to paint my bedroom red since well.. since like 6 or 7 years ago.. I chickened out and was convinced to go to a lighter “salmon” color in our last apartment which ended up looking like pink. yuck. So now since it’s our own house I did the photoshop work and the room is big enough to handle a dark color like red, so I dove in and bought the paint and voila the room is red. If only it was that easy :P

One coat of dark pink primer = 2 gallons of dark pink
4 coats of red = 5 gallons of red paint

Yes, FOUR coats of red!! Most would think painting white over a dark color like red or navy blue would take 4-5 coats. WRONG, it’s actually the contrary. Even touching up where the red bled over the white took one dab of white paint. Apparantly the explanation is that there’s less titanium oxide in darker paints (titanium oxide makes the paint stick to the wall) so it rolls on in a thin almost sheer coat every time.

Needless to say the red isn’t perfectly even looking, but it definitely frames the windows sooo nicely and the room can definitely handle the shrinkage a dark color does to a room. It looks fabulous with all my birthday furniture from Josh :)

Photos to come soon…

new years!

Posted on Monday, January 1, 2007 in Current Events, Family/Friends

we spent new years at the universal city walk where there was supposed to be snow.. though we only saw the confetti when it reached midnight. met amritz and sarah down there for dinner and then hung out to watch the ball drop in the huge crowd. it was freezing cold but when we were all crammed in the crowd it wasn’t so cold at all, a bit warm in fact.

here’s a shot of the festivities:
