sydney queens
On Feb 20, the Queen Elizabeth 2 sailed into Sydney and the Queen Mary 2 was there. It was the first time since WWII that the 2 ships were at the Sydney port at the same time. So it was a crazy event and there was gridlock for both boats and cars at the port:

departed won the most oscars this year. i agree! 
was it just me or were the oscars not as glamorous this year? am i just numb from it all at this point? felt like there weren’t a lot of big stars/glamour/excitement…

josh’s birthday
josh’s birthday was awesome. i think he had a lot of fun. we went out to maru sushi on saturday night with amritz, sarah, charlie, ruben, and neeka. then headed back to the house for a game of taboo! and some cake. josh and amritz were not so good at taboo so we think it’s a guy thing…
i got josh a new camera- underwater AND shockproof camera. which is perfect for josh:
and a couple shirts and surprise today- a trip to the california science center to see the star wars: where science meets imagination exhibit and destiny in space imax movie. we both never saw an imax, so that was really cool. the star wars exhibit was very cool too. I’ll post photos of that tomorrow.
oh and the guys at josh’s work bought him an awesome cake.. totally outdoes the one i made josh.. here it is:

Saw the Queen last night. I liked the movie quite a bit. I could be biased though with my anglophilia. But, the Departed still sits at number 1 for me. Babel comes out on DVD on Feb 20, I got it netflixed at the top of my list, so I hope I get it as soon as it comes out. Doubt I’ll see Notes on a Scandal or Blood Diamond because they’re not in theaters or on DVD anytime soon. Already saw Little Children (w/Kate Winslet= gooood), I meant Children of Men (w/Clive Owen).. but I saw that one already too, I guess it didn’t have too much of an impression on me if I forgot I already saw it hah.
Josh’s birthday is this weekend. It should be fun times. I’ll try to take lots of photos.

I need to get through more films!
I haven’t seen enough Oscar nominated films yet! I want to at least get through most of the best picture category. I saw Little Miss Sunshine and The Departed. I liked Little Miss Sunshine for what it was. But I loved The Departed it was such a great film. Haven’t seen one that good in a long time. It filled me suspense cramps. I didn’t really love Mark Wahlberg’s acting, was more impressed with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson.
I’m planning on seeing The Queen and Babel before the awards and anything else I can get to next. If I can get in Little Children, Notes on a Scandal, and Blood Diamond that would be awesomeness. I really want to see those.

he’s baaaack!
The pigeon hawk is back! This morning he was patrolling our backyard! back for more??

I came home for lunch today because I got my mini back yesterday night - turns out the computer (brain) was the issue.. they replaced it.
So i get home and glance out the window before letting the dogs out and notice feathers all over the lawn and then see out of the corner of my eye what looks to be a pigeon.. so I assume the pigeon is hurt or something or he’s picking out all his feathers going crazy.. so I grab my camera so I can take a pic and show Josh, and when I go out there I realize woah that’s no pigeon, it’s some sort of hawk and it’s still standing on a dead bird! I take the photo as quickly as possible and run back in the house… don’t want to get in the way of a bird and his prey:
I guess my running into the house intrigued Damien and he wanted to go outside even more than usual.. but there was no way I was going to let him out there and face off with that bird and get some sort of bird flu. So I ended up letting him out in the front yard in the mulchy area. When I got home I cleaned up the feathers off our turf the only way I could think of- with a vacuum cleaner and then some disinfectant cleaner we use to clean the lawn:
Josh retrieved the dead carcass when he got home and apparantly all that was left was a rib cage and a bit of wings… ew the hawk thing ate the head and beak?!
