a new scam

Posted on Thursday, March 29, 2007 in Current Events

So i haven’t seen this scam yet.. a pink envelope (looks like the rebate type envelopes- tear a side and pull out the slip). The envelope is pink and inside is a slip printed on a dot matrix printer saying “Official Notice” across the top and an official “Better Homes & Gardens” logo on the side.

It says Call 1-888-790-4463

Dear [my name],
We are trying to reach you regarding your $2,100,000.00 sweepstakes ID #[some ID number]. Please call us at the

number. This is a free call. Sincerely - Pat Haines, Sales Representative.

Expiration Notice: We must hear from you by the deadline on the front of this mailer. (you mean the one I threw out?) Otherwise your ID number will expire.

So this looking like a scam I read all the fine print on the back. Remembered I don’t get Better Homes and Gardens and did my google search for this $2,100,000.00 sweepstakes. In the fine print it’s called “Strike it Rich V”. Immediately I came upon this: http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?t=16320.

Such a scam. So many red flags. Why an odd amount? $2,100,000? I have to call them? Deadline? I didn’t enter.. the fine print says I have to enter.. wha? lame.

So I urge you to make that free call with your favorite sound board and get some humor at the expense of these scammers! :)

6flags!

Posted on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 in Family/Friends

went to 6 flags over the weekend. amritz and i got season passes and used friend passes for sarah and josh. we went on the 3 scariest roller coasters in the park. waited 2 hours to get on tatsu and we were starving and thirsty and just wanted to get on it to get out of line to get something to eat and drink at that point. omg it was the scariest coaster i’ve ever been on (yes, it beat X- when i rode it with joe that first trip to LA 5 years ago). since you’re dangling under the track basically on all 4’s, you can imagine that first tall drop you have to go up slowly.. it’s pretty crazy.. u just see the ground, nothing in front, nothing in back, no track.. nada. i had my eyes closed most of the way up that hill then opened them once we started going fast. it’s pretty fun. the worst part is the beginning hill and at the end u just hang there dangling waiting for the car in front of u to unload and load back up.. that’s where i was ready to barf.

here’s a clip amritz took of tatsu:

i posted some pics in the photo gallery section. we stopped home for lunch and went back for X and Goliath. X was not as bad the second time around, but still pretty intense.

oh yea, don’t forget to vote for sanjaya! http://votefortheworst.com he had the craziest mohawk tonight. Josh and I tivo and fast forward to his part of the show to catch the phone number and we were cracking up.. can’t wait to see what he looks like next week.

Posted on Saturday, March 24, 2007 in Family/Friends

so last weekend and just about any weekend i do some gardening and use the hose, damien goes crazy with it. it cracks josh and i up and damien will play with the hose for hours. so we finally took some video clips of it:

i apologize for the poor quality. youtube has some terrible compression:

The tiny dogs you hear barking in the background are the neighbors miniature dachshunds (sp?). They hate when our dogs have fun they watch and bark.

“Some of the constituents of asparagus are metabolised and excreted in the urine, giving it a distinctive, mildly unpleasant odor. The smell is caused by various sulfur-containing degradation products (e.g. thiols and thioesters). Studies showed that about 40% of the test subjects displayed this characteristic smell; and a similar percentage of people are able to smell the odor once it is produced. There does not seem to be any correlation between peoples’ production and detection of the smell. The speed of onset of urine smell is rapid, and has been estimated to occur within 15-30 minutes from ingestion.”

weekend update

Posted on Sunday, March 18, 2007 in food

it was a beautiful weekend again. super hot on saturday - 85! almost went swimming… but it was cold by the beaches - only 60, so we canceled our bike rides on the beach plans and instead ran a bunch of errands- i bought more star jasmine and planted it in my garden :) we did a lot of food shopping for cooking this week. i’m excited. we found a lot of yummy stuff.

we had a BBQ saturday with amritz and sarah and played his wii, that thing is soooo fun. we played bowling and some wario games. damien is totally freaked out by the wii though and he thinks we’re throwing the controller at him so he keeps barking at us.

sunday josh and i did more grilling, i made asparagus on the grill with skewers - salt, pepper & olive oil, it was delicious and we had roasted garlic marinated chicken that was super moist.

oh and on saturday the doorbell rings around like 1pm or so and Josh goes to get it and disappears for like 5 minutes so I go check it out and then in the driveway out the sliding door I see a bunch of packages laid out on the driveway of meat! and I look out the front yard and a guy is selling meat door-to-door! the magazine sales have been around.. but meat?! and it was 85 and he was laying it out on our driveway.. hrmm not so fresh then? but i hear it’s good meat.

biking

Posted on Monday, March 12, 2007 in Uncategorized

After pizza, I decided to try to bike more than my usual (usual as in one week.. ) 6 miles. I was thinking 7 miles so I could make it home before dark.. but I made it to just about 8 miles and home as it was just past dusk. And with one mile left my bike chain slid off while shifting to first going uphill. Josh has to adjust that for me.. it only happens shifting to first. I managed to get it back on and finished the last mile with dirty greasy hands. I could so ride my bike to work- only 4 miles away.. but i’d get all sweaty and would need a shower. :( Wish there was a gym at the town center.

So riding 45 minutes - I burned 430 calories - all of the pizza I ate for dinner. Strawberries for dessert! I’m gonna be so in shape come time for jetskiing! or so I hope if i keep up this regimine…

spring!

Posted on Friday, March 9, 2007 in Garden

I think spring is here.. esp with the clocks going forward saturday. It’s been really sunny and nice and warm the past week. My garden is appreciating it, all the flowers that survived the frosty winter and blooming again:

Flowers!

and I keep finding lots of these little anoles in my garden scattering everytime I go outside:

Anole

and I had a couple as pets in a terrarium back when I lived in Buffalo, but one day they mysteriously were in the garden and Mom and Dad looked guilty. I’m sure they didn’t make it through the winter. So now I have my own native anoles that come every spring/summer in my backyard :) (Yes, it looks like something sharp got in the way of this one’s tail).

One last pic.. Amritz and Sarah picked me up a plumeria cutting when they visited Hawaii for Christmas and I planted it a couple weeks ago and it’s started doing stuff. It’s the strangest growth I’ve ever seen (looks waxy/fake) but apparantly this is normal for a plumeria cutting and it means good things are happening and those gorgeous plumeria flowers will come next year. The first year is all leaves. I’ll be happy when I see some leaves. It likes little to no water and the soil is 1/2 sand. Strange growing conditions but sounds about accurate for Hawaii. I’ll keep taking pics every couple weeks so I can do a sweet animated gif of it growing!

Reno

Posted on Monday, March 5, 2007 in Movies

Saw Reno 911: Miami with Josh this past weekend it ws fantastic! If you like the show, it’s just as absurd. I loved it. It seems very ad lib. I wonder if it is…

I rode 6 miles on my bike today, the bike path by my house has been repaired.. it goes on much further than I rode but I turned around when I couldn’t ride anymore and had to ride all the way back home. ugh. Wednesday I’ll do it again if it’s warm again. All the Amgen bike riders were totally riding the path.. lookin all professional rider like in their spandex. No, I won’t wear bicyclist spandex.
