Oscars!

Posted on Sunday, February 24, 2008 in Current Events, Movies

Ah, feels so weird after working the Oscars 4 years in a row, now watching it from home! Overall, I felt the show was rather boring. I liked Jon Stewart better on his last Oscars hosting duty. This time he just wasn’t so good… dunno if it was due to the writers strike or what.

So, out of the top categories I only saw “No Country for Old Men” and “Juno”. Still on my list is “There Will be Blood”, “Atonement”, and “Michael Clayton” (yea this year I’m interested in seeing them all). I liked “No Country for Old Men” because it’s excellent film making, acting and directing. But the story line just throws me. I liked it until the end. I’m not sure what I was supposed to get out of it. I got the theme - hunter becomes hunted. The hero is not quite moral but we still root for him… but I’m not sure what else I was supposed to get out of it that made it an excellent film… if someone got more out of it, please tell me what I’m missing!

I loved Juno! I saw it once and already want to see it again and I will because Josh fell asleep during it :) I heard a lot of people loved “There Will be Blood” even those that didn’t like “No Country for Old Men”… so I’m very interested in seeing that next.

Cool Firefox Tricks

Posted on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 in Technology, Web

Wanted to share a few Firefox tricks I use often. Speeds things up in the internet surfing! These are specific to Windows… but just substitute Command (Apple) key for Cntrl and it works for mac too.

Keyboard shortcuts (true in most browsers):

  • Spacebar (page down)
  • Shift + Spacebar (page up)
  • Cntrl + D (bookmark)
  • Cntrl + T (new tab)
  • Cntrl + K (Search box)
  • Cntrl + L (Address bar)
  • F5 (Reload page)
  • Cntrl + R (Reload page)
  • Cntrl + Tab (Move forward thru tabs) - Mac users, use Cntrl not Command
  • Cntrl + Shift + Tab (Move backward thru tabs) - Mac users, use Cntrl not Command

Auto complete
I use this one a lot. Instead of typing “www.” in the address bar before an address, just type something like “apple” in the address bar and press Cntrl + Enter. It will automatically add the “www.” and the “.com” to the address.

Crumbs in LA

Posted on Monday, February 4, 2008 in food

Josh and I went down to LA on Saturday to check out Crumbs, a famous bakery of New York City. This is their first location outside of Manhattan. Most famous for the Artie Lange cupcake. Artie Lange loves the place so much and goes there so frequently that they named a special cupcake after him that he himself created.

These cupcakes are seriously jumbo muffin size. We picked up 6 of them for Josh’s Mom’s birthday (she has a major sweet tooth) and 4 of them for ourselves. Flavors? Reese’s Peanut Butter Cupcake, Oreo Cupcake, Caramel Apple Cupcake and Fudge Brownie Cupcake. Yum! The frosting is like an inch thick on them! I can only eat 1/2 a cupcake at a time.
