Life gave me Lemons

Posted on Sunday, January 18, 2009 in food

Well, our friend Steve did. The Santa Ana winds knocked a bunch of lemons off his lemon tree, so he brought in bags and bags of them. Josh took a bag and I made lemonade. I also zested a few lemons and used it as air freshener in my car. Mmmm smells awesome in there!

Fresh peach pie!

Posted on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 in food

I attempted to make this pie because peach season is almost over at the Farmer’s market. I picked up 5 peaches and made this pie… A day and 3 hours of my life later it’s done. It was sooo involved. I know I’ll never make it again. But it tasted pretty good… just not 3 hours of baking good :)

Good bye cheez-its, hello bunnies!

Posted on Monday, July 7, 2008 in food

Cheddar bunnies! These little bunnies are my new favorite snack! I used to be a fan of low sodium cheez-its (the regular ones were a bit too salty for me). But I recently heard someone raving about Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies. They were right! They’re delicious. Way better than cheez-its. AND on top of the taste… they’re 100% organic, no trans fat and no preservatives or additives. Maybe that’s why they taste better :)

On a cooking kick…

Posted on Monday, June 16, 2008 in food

So I’ve been trying some new things as far as cooking goes. I’m more of a baker (”I am the baker! I bake the cakes! Make no mistake! I like to bake…”). I made sausage cacciatore last night with the chicken sausage I bought at the Farmer’s market and it was delicious! I got a recipe from Lauren that I slightly tweaked for my needs.

I also made some bruschetta which we had tonight as an appetizer. It also turned out awesome. I’m not a huge fan of raw onions and this bruschetta was just tomatoes, basil, olive oil and garlic cloves. It was perfect. Of course you could always add some mozarella cheese to the top as well.

Here’s the sausage cacciatore:

So many years to learn I’m semi-left-handed?

Posted on Friday, June 13, 2008 in food

When I was cutting my dinner about a week ago, Josh noticed I cut left handed… or as he says “you’re doing it wrong!”. I was holding my fork with my right hand and sawing away with my left… I guess that is left-handed. I never realized it but I always cut meat and my dinner this way. I did realize when it comes to slicing tomatoes or a loaf of bread I do it right handed.

Weird! I’m an ambidextrous cutter?! It might come from Dad’s left-handedness.

Farmer’s Market

Posted on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 in Garden, food

So, I’ve decided to get most of my fruits and vegetables and eggs at the Farmer’s market on Sundays now. They cost the same price as what I pay at Albertsons and they are way fresher and support local markets. With the way gas prices are now… I would expect produce prices to go up. Diesel is so much now!

While I was at the Farmer’s market I picked up my favorite, some purple Irises. $3 for a bunch of 5, not too bad. The seller even mentioned that you should put ice in the water and they will last longer because they like it cooler!

Healthy eating out!

Posted on Monday, April 28, 2008 in food

I don’t eat out too often, everyday I go home for lunch and probably 2 to 3 times a month we go to a restaurant.. which isn’t too often from what I hear from my friends! But when we do I tend to eat waay too many calories, sodium, etc. So I found this article really interesting!

Olive Garden’s Venetian Apricot Chicken has 448 calories and 11 grams of fat.

Crumbs in LA

Posted on Monday, February 4, 2008 in food

Josh and I went down to LA on Saturday to check out Crumbs, a famous bakery of New York City. This is their first location outside of Manhattan. Most famous for the Artie Lange cupcake. Artie Lange loves the place so much and goes there so frequently that they named a special cupcake after him that he himself created.

These cupcakes are seriously jumbo muffin size. We picked up 6 of them for Josh’s Mom’s birthday (she has a major sweet tooth) and 4 of them for ourselves. Flavors? Reese’s Peanut Butter Cupcake, Oreo Cupcake, Caramel Apple Cupcake and Fudge Brownie Cupcake. Yum! The frosting is like an inch thick on them! I can only eat 1/2 a cupcake at a time.
