Making progress…

Posted on Friday, February 16, 2007 in Movies

Saw the Queen last night. I liked the movie quite a bit. I could be biased though with my anglophilia. But, the Departed still sits at number 1 for me. Babel comes out on DVD on Feb 20, I got it netflixed at the top of my list, so I hope I get it as soon as it comes out. Doubt I’ll see Notes on a Scandal or Blood Diamond because they’re not in theaters or on DVD anytime soon. Already saw Little Children (w/Kate Winslet= gooood), I meant Children of Men (w/Clive Owen).. but I saw that one already too, I guess it didn’t have too much of an impression on me if I forgot I already saw it hah.

Josh’s birthday is this weekend. It should be fun times. I’ll try to take lots of photos.

I need to get through more films!

Posted on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 in Movies

I haven’t seen enough Oscar nominated films yet! I want to at least get through most of the best picture category. I saw Little Miss Sunshine and The Departed. I liked Little Miss Sunshine for what it was. But I loved The Departed it was such a great film. Haven’t seen one that good in a long time. It filled me suspense cramps. I didn’t really love Mark Wahlberg’s acting, was more impressed with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson.

I’m planning on seeing The Queen and Babel before the awards and anything else I can get to next. If I can get in Little Children, Notes on a Scandal, and Blood Diamond that would be awesomeness. I really want to see those.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest

Posted on Monday, July 10, 2006 in Movies

piratesJosh and I saw Pirates of the Caribbean Part Deux yesterday at the Edward’s Cinema in Valencia. We were going to see it at the Academy screening at 7 p.m. but someone wanted to see my car for sale after 6 p.m. so we went to a matinee instead.

Sidenote: Few things you realize at a screening at the public cinema (i’m not a theater snob), there are lots of kids, people laugh at unfunny parts, people talk, cell phones ring, there’s goo on the seats, the floor is even gooeier (sp?). Seeing movies at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater has been an awesome perk from my job, but also a curse. Public theaters are horrible. I’ve never felt this way before, but my coworkers talk of similar experiences.

The movie was a great cinematic experience, but it had no ending. A plot developed but never finished. The first Pirates movie ended but left room for a sequel, this was just an introduction to the next Pirates Part Trois. And Keira Knightly (circa 20) kissed Johnny Depp (circa 40)! Did anyone else catch this? And I’m talking about Johnny Depp being over 40. When did that happen? He still looks 30ish.
